We are 3 weeks into our Precept Upon Precept bible study of “Voices”, by Pam Gillespie. The workbook is a very useful instruction tool for learning to identify Gods voice, and others. We have just completed the first 5 books of the Old Testament, or “Torah”. There are areas where Pam asks, “How are you responding to God’s voice? Yikes! I have bravely answered those questions but not with complete transparency. I struggle with writing down the full truth. Why? I think it’s because the words on paper will shame me into responding from guilt. I know God will win this battle inside me or I would not confess it here. In a world running from truth, may I run headlong into God’s.
“Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will listen to the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we listen to the voice of the LORD our God.””-Jeremiah 42:6 NASB
God’s voice was with His people and they vowed to hear Him, but alas, did not. They suffered loss of His presence, setbacks, pestilence, drought, famine, destruction and death. These things occurred after God spoke and gave His commands. It’s strange but somewhat understandable with how easy it is too deny Him when you don’t even know Him, but what could be the excuse of Israel? Or His children today? Me? It seems it’s a human frailty that stems from free will and thinking “I’ve got this”. The one unforgivable sin. Going our own way.
“My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me.”
-Psalms 77:1 NASB
God hears us! Enter grace and that restorative power of redemption and that moment you realize He sees you! He hears you! Rejoice believers, He’s got this! Certainly NOT us. He will uphold you, hears prayers and yes, sometimes you may understand miracles, answered prayers, the possibilities of Gods great power. What was done on the cross has freed us to hear His voice, to really know Him and have His presence. Now that is typically different for everyone because He knows each of us as we respond best. How marvelous are His works. How marvelous is He who loves us and forgives us!
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” -James 1:5 NASB
The things I’m ashamed to admit? Well, I seek God’s voice and I have asked Him to enlarge my coast, to correct me and to train me in righteousness through His holy word. The Bible. I’m not going back to my old ways soo, onward and upward. Through thick and thin, by trial and reproof, I will persevere. I will study and prevail as His child. A child in His most marvelous light, the light from His Son Jesus Christ. Amen
“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
