“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Happy Thursday, October 1, 2020.  I’ve been reading many prayers for people, groups, leaders and our nation during this pandemic, racial injustice and protests.  We’ve also experienced horrific storms, including over 1,000 lightening strikes in Northern California that has led to many firestorms. The following is a prayer for the people and land of America.  I also pray for the world as well, but this prayer is for the nation of the United States as we move toward the end of this tumultuous year.

I begin with a call to God, my friend Thaddeus Nsamba taught me;  Lord, God Almighty! As a nation we thank you for our many blessings.  For our caring and nurturing instincts.  For the kindness You have modeled for us and the forgiveness we don’t deserve.  We thank You for our shelters and our nourishment.   We thank You for the very land we have the privilege to occupy and the creation we enjoy.  Thank You, Lord God.

Lord, God Almighty! We humbly call on you to hear our prayer.  We in these United States ask You Father, to hear our nations cry, that we cannot do this without You!  We ask for your healing power for those affected by a contagious and killing virus.  We ask that You, Father, give strength and ongoing courage to the first responders in health care and to those who supply on going care to patient’s with other health issues struggling to survive.  We pray that people understand that it is up to all of us to thwart this virus, together.  We pray that our differences be insignificant flies we brush from our faces and that we can agree to move forward as an army of proactive people.  We pray for those who may not call on Your name, to join in this fight to save lives.  We lift this prayer up to You, Sovereign Lord, as we know You have all the power.

We pray for the first responders fighting wildfires in much of the western United States.  We pray they stay safe as they fight blazes out of control and driven by heat and gusting wind.  We pray for those who have lost homes, property and most importantly, human lives.  We pray for those sick and injured as they have gathered to respond to these emergencies.

Lord God, we have injustices in our land.  We have people gathered to protest.  May those who have peacefully shown up to lend their voice for those unjustly killed and singled out with prejudice, feel Your protection.  May they be comforted with the knowledge that Your kingdom will one day reign with true justice.  May this prayer protect them from harm and give them strength and courage to do what is right in Your sight.

Lord, it is a time of civil unrest.  We have an election coming up and need prayers for those running to serve.  May they take on their roles of leadership with acute awareness of those they serve.  May they join in the fight for justice and for mandating protection against Covid-19.  May the people of this nation agree, by votes, who our next leaders will be with obedience to authority and respect for the office in which they will serve.  May we come together regardless of party and understand party difference are ONLY that.  May we pray for those who are filled with hate and violence over this election process.  Lord we pray for the unborn, who have become a platform on our political parties.

Lord we have high amounts of unemployment and many who have lost their businesses.  We lift up prayers for those affected by job loss.  We ask You, Mighty God to give comfort and peace to those who do not know where or how they will live.  May they hear Your voice and respond with a new found hope.  May we get a handle on the pandemic so people can return to services and livelihood’s lost.

Lord, God Almighty! May we rise above the hate and violence of our nation.  May we, with your purpose, carry on with messages of love and forgiveness. May we not judge or condemn each other!  May the bitterness of our nation be turned to gratitude for all that we truly have.  May we help one another, in any way we can, to get through these dark days of uncertainty and unrest.  And, may we look to You as our answer for those things that plague us.

     In Jesus name, amen.

“”Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [ For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ ]”
