Best driver award (from me and a KOA hostess”!)

I have been thinking about “thankfulness” for the past few days.  You see, Jim and I took a gamble (without looking at our Truckers Route map) and decided on a scenic route out of Oakhurst, California to Coleville, California.  We wound up on Sonora Pass on hwy 108, this after taking hwy 49.  Now I know God is in charge, and thanks be to God, but Jim and I were both terrified of the roads we found ourselves on.  Keep in mind we are in a 23 foot truck, dually (dual rear wheels) pulling a 42 foot, fifth wheel camper.  Sonora pas hits an elevation of 9,647 feet.  We also found they have narrow, tight S curves with spots at 20 and 25% grades, respectively.  Am I thankful to God?  Oh my.  I believe He was with us all the way.  Jim could take the never ending curves that curved left on the outside lane fairly well , but it was the S curves on the sharp right turns turning out on the inside lane that had us really stressed out.  Our Fifth wheel tires would cross the white line on the other shoulder and Jim fought it to keep it on the road!  The amazing and miraculous part was that we never had another vehicle coming at us on those outside turns.  We had traffic for sure on the easier turns where we could see better.  This went on for about five hours of driving.  Sometimes we were crawling at 5 miles per hour!

Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name. – Chronicles 29:13 NASB

Jim is to be commended for keeping his cool.  I’m not sure I could have persevered.   It’s amazing to me when people can do things under extreme duress and still pry their hands off a steering wheel and feel that gratitude, with humility.  Here’s the kicker.  Jim was polite enough, throughout the drive, to allow people to pass us by pulling over, yes on cliffs, each and every time he saw a car or “cars” piling up on the rear of the RV.  Some of those stuck behind us waved, thankful for letting them by.  I was amazed as my heart was pretty much in my throat and those cliffs were ever looming in my eyes!  God is so amazing.  He knew we needed Him.  He knew we could rely on Him and I can’t thank Him enough for His faithfulness.  Jim and I are truly blessed.  God is with us.  His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Give Thanks to the God of gods, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. – Psalm 6:2 NASB
